“Came to buy a record, not relive the trauma of Year 8 detention. I visited this store looking to splash some cash on my record collection while on holidays. Zero customer service from the two staff in the store for the first 15 minutes of my visit. This was until the owner spied me on my phone. I had paused to check whether or not I already had a Coltrane album in my collection, which I have cataloged in an app on my phone. This was when I was approached by an old man towering over me trying to sneak a look at what I was doing on my phone. He bluntly asked me if I could “put my phone away in front of his vinyl” as if I were doing something illegal. He then leaned over my partner and started tapping on the home made signs to say that the store was a phone free zone. As if I was a naughty student in maths sneakily texting under the desk. For a second I felt guilty until I realised that I was an adult with free-will and a phone and that this man was just a kook. The amount of stock in the store is an indication that this man has probably scared off more customers than he’s sold records. Really disappointed that I’m not able to shop local. Will happily spend my money back in Hobart at places like Tommy Gunn or Suffragette Records where you’re treated like an adult. It’s a shame for the locals who probably have to resort to buying records online to avoid being treated like children in a classroom.”
“Same issue as many other reviewers - owner rude about phone usage despite me being excited to spend $$ there (and having spent lots of money there in the past). I apologised, and turned the phone off. When I asked him what exactly the problem with phones was, was told he was at work and to return to ask the question after 5pm. Communicating with customers is part of a retail role, mate!!! Left without purchasing. No need for the general rude demeanour. Better off shopping on Ebay, or at JB.”
“My partner and I are big CD collectors, considering we have collected so many over the years we use an app to track what we have so we don’t double up. My partner pulled his phone out to scan one of the CDs to check if we had it before being told off for being on his phone because he’s had “issues with phones”. My partner asked “What sort of problems have you had?” and he said “I don’t have time to explain why, I could give you 40 reasons why they’re bad”. And then he just said, “oh okay.” He then sort of looked to me with a grumpy look and I didn’t even do anything lol. He was very rude and abrupt with his tone. Just got a really bad feeling and left. It’s a shame I wasted $140 on this shop previously as I thought I was supporting local. I’m a massive collector, so of course I know where I can get 1000 cheaper products. He isn’t worth supporting unfortunately, and by the sounds of the countless other people who have reviewed on here about the phones too it’s a common occurrence. Owner needs a reality check. Prices are also a lot higher than eBay.”
“My partner and I are collectors of old video games, consoles, memorabilia, etc. We went in store today to look at some Nintendo DS games. We were talking about which Mario was on DS light, as I pulled out my phone to Google the game, which console it was on, and when it released the owner loudly stated "No no. No phones" I was taken back, because we had been in store for a good 5-10 minutes and he had said nothing to us. When I asked why I cannot Google he said "it's a no phone store. You can't see the sign, but it's up as a condition of entry" It immediately frustrated me, so I question him why not. His response was a piddly long winded excuse " there's like 40 avenues i could take this, but I don't care to" he continued to speak about his woes for a solid 3-4 minutes even after I said "I understand. Thank you". I suspect there to be 2 reasons why I could not use my phone. 1. Price checking. His wares have always been expensive. 2. Flash photography does degrade colours in images, but that doesn't explain why I couldn't Google. I have lived in Burnie for 18 years of my life, and he has always been this way. He used to be way kinder. Everything has always been more expensive though. Do yourself a favor, treat yourself to a nice trip to Launceston and go to Cunninghams in Mowbray, he is a Man who is worth your time and money. Alternatively save your money and buy from Ebay.”
“I shop here frequently and although there were a few times a book was a bit pricey, I was asked to leave my drink/food somewhere, and asked not to take photos, they’re all fair. He’s always been nice to myself and my friend, and even offered to order vinyls into the shop for me once. As long as you are respectful, polite, and follow the store policies you should never have troubles with him”
