“I have been attendng The Wayside Chapel for about 15 years now and I love the place. When I needed their services, they were kind and compassionate and dealt with my needs without judgement and even suggested extra services for me that I was not aware of. The staff and volunteers are kind people who genuinely care for each and every visitor there. At Wayside you are not just another bum to wipe or a nose to wipe, you are a person and that means so much to those who someone who is down on their luck and needs a bit of love. For anyone who is looking for inspiration in life or something to fill their days, they have a range of activities that change daily and there is something for everyone. There is also "mob space" for Indigenous people to feel safe, hang out or get assistance" and "women's space" for the same reasons. They also have a low-cost cafe where everyone is welcome in the most expensive meal is just $4. The food is cooked by a qualified chef and is always very good. On sundays they have their very popular sunday roast which is just $4.50. You couldn't make it at home for that price! Their op shop is fantastic. There's always weird and wonderful items to buy at affordable prices an all proceeds go towards programs to assist people to regain control of their life and have a better future. Vina is the op shop manager and she and her staff are really helpful and always smiling. On Christmas day they have a fantastic street party every year where everyone from homeless people, housed people, families, celebrities and politicians all have a big party on Hughes Street! It's a fantastic day so if you're on your own for Christmas, or even if you're not alone, all are welcome and if you be nice to Santa, he might let you take a selfie with him. The event is free for all who attend but if people want to "donate a plate" to help with the costs, the details are on Wayside's website.”
“You'll get excluded for asking for help they just want you keep quite and shut your mouth. Here they also lie like it's going out of fashion. Lying is the new Truth. You'll get your Photo taken without your permission and then put it up on Social Media.”
