“Great opshop, always had a great experience but missing a star today because of worker Despi’s condescending and disparaging remarks. I let her know I had gotten a couple of things from the front room (to avoid confusion later when paying) and she said “have you donated yet”. I explained to her that i always donated money to the tin but then last time I was previously told by 2 other workers, without even asking, that the room is free if you are in need or if you can afford a donation. I told her about three times that I am indeed in need but I don’t think I was believed. I asked her a few times “has this rule ever changed or previously been different?”, etc. she said repeatedly and firmly no it’s never been free, then it changed to “except for people in need”. I said again, but I am in need. She then gave me back the dollar I had handed to her. I asked once more for clarity “so it’s free, if I’m in need?”… the answer was vague, I didn’t want to have to, but I said I am a single parent living on a disability pension. Lo and behold, I have come home to check Facebook and seen on your Facebook that you’re announcing it is indeed a free room or donate if you can. Despi, Why was I questioned or singled out as someone not in need? And why did Despi then tell me that the woman manager agreed with her, when the Facebook post from only one year ago to the month, says very different. As I walked out I asked again why am I being told something different from 3 diffeeenr people… Despi then felt the need to say “if you’re really in need you can go to [charity down the road]” and said “I’m shutting the door now”. Further empathy is needed in such a line of work. Makes me reluctant to go to a free food bank as I may have a similar experience, even though it’s free, be made to feel like I’m getting something I don’t deserve. Not good.”

“Clothes are really well priced for the basics! Some items seem quite expensive, but I picked up a few little things I loved.”

“Grossly overpriced. I’m shocked and saddened. Obviously aimed to price out any poor people, which is opposite to the intended spirit.”

“A kind of cool little op shop, where the prices are what thrift store prices should be. If you're op shopping in the area (and Mornington has quite a few opportunity shops to offer) this is worth including in your travels.”
